2,000 Kg Drugs held in a Ambulance

 In a major seizure, nearly 2,000 kilograms of marijuana, worth nearly Rs.3 crore, that was being ferried in an ambulance was seized by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officers in Visakhapatnam. Based on specific intelligence that narcotics were being illegally transported, officers from DRI, Visakhapatnam regional unit had launched an operation in the early hours of Friday and intercepted a Force traveller styled as an ambulance coming from Sabbavaram towards Pendurthi on the Sabbavaram– Pendurthi Road, (Chennai – Kolkata Highway) in Visakhapatnam.After searching the ambulance, the officers recovered 1813 kg of marijuana, packed in 361 brown packets weighing approximately 5 kg each.


The contraband was said to be brought from the agency areas of Vizag and destined to Raipur in Chattisgarh. The marijuana was seized under provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985. The value of the seized marijuana in the grey market would be around Rs.2.71 crore, officials said.Officers also seized the ambulance and arrested the driver.
