YSR Congress Party Rajya Sabha members, former Lok Sabha members and other senior leaders staged a dharna in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the premises of Parliament House in New Delhi on Wednesday demanding Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh.

Rajya Sabha members V. Vijaya Sai Reddy and V. Prabhakar Reddy, former MPs Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, V. Varaprasada Rao and P.V. Mithun Reddy, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Ummareddy Venkateswarlu and former Minister Botcha Satyanarayana participated in the dharna.

The leaders held placards and raised slogans demanding implementation of the A.P. Reorganisation Act.

Addressing the media later, Mr. Vijaya Sai Reddy said the agitation for SCS would be continued in the Rajya Sabha even in the winter session.

The YSRCP had been stressing the importance of SCS for the development of Andhra Pradesh since 2014, he said.

‘A lesson for Naidu’

Mr. Rajamohan Reddy said TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu fielded candidates on behalf of his party in Telangana. But the people of Telangana taught him a lesson by defeating the TDP candidates, he said.

Mr. Naidu’s hypocrisy was also exposed in his election campaign in Telangana, Mr. Rajamohan Reddy said.

Mr. Naidu found fault with the TRS for not taking action against the TDP MLAs who had defected, forgetting that he had resorted to a similar thing in A.P. by luring the YSRCP MLAs.
