Kakinada police recover jewelry worth ?1.10 lakh from Jogada Vamsikrishna

The city police have arrested Jogada Vamsikrishna alias Harsha (28) of Rajamahendravaram on the charge of cheating girls through social media. They recovered gold jewelry worth ?1.10 lakh from him. The police also found out that he had swindled money to the tune of ?44 lakh from girls belonging to various cities and towns across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Ravi Varma said that Vamsikrishna was an engineering dropout and had worked in a private firm in Hyderabad for a brief period. “As his focus shifted towards easy money, he started trapping girls by using social media and collected money and jewelry from them by hook or crook,” Mr. Varma said, adding that though the police received a complaint from one of the victims from the city six months ago, it took time to nab him as he kept changing his phone number frequently.

“However, his modus operandi of making friends with girls by using the online platforms and cheating them remained the same. Following a tip-off, we have nabbed him near the Kakinada Town railway station,” he said, adding that a history sheet would be opened against the accused.
