During the floods in the month of August, hundreds of farmlands located on the banks of Gautami and Vasishta, distributaries of Godavari river, are disappearing because of soil erosion.

Farmers living in more than 27 villages in Kothapeta, Ravulapalem, Atreyapuram, and Alamuru mandals are the worst affected. Villagers are blaming the Irrigation department for the poor quality of revetments on the banks as they are unable to withstand floods. They say that crores of rupees are being wasted on revetments as officials are not strengthening them.
