Vijayawada: Indian Medical Association (IMA) president Dr Jayasekhar said conflicts in the hospitals with patients could be avoided if they  improve communication with the patient.

Addressing the awareness session on ‘Managing the Conflicts in Hospitals’ jointly organised by Confederation of Indian Industry, Andhra Pradesh Healthcare Panel and Vijayawada branch of Indian Medical Association at the Indian Medical Association hall here on Saturday, Dr Jayasekhar said the patient should be informed that the whole session was under surveillance and everything was recorded.

"The doctors, physicians and nurses commonly encounter ethical and legal issues at workplace due to various reasons and dealing with the relatives of patients at times of crisis is a challenge task for the medical professionals," he stated.

Legal adviser and advocate T Sridhar said all the hospitals should display boards under GO 15 of April 2008, which clearly shows, the attack on hospitals or doctors is a punishable offence.  He said medical services should be removed under the purview of Consumer Protection Act.

Management consultant M C Das said infrastructural changes should be undertaken at the hospital premises to avoid conflicts with patients.

CII AP Health services convener P Ravi Kiran said the programme should be held to create awareness among the doctors and public and to improve confidence on doctors.
